The Queer Families Project was created to document queer and trans* chosen families that exist outside of the patriarchal norms. Almost very portrayal of queers and our loved ones upholds and supports oppression through stereotypes. Families are continuously depicted in the nuclear fashion: two, white parents with two and half children. As a result, this excludes people who have been marginalized through their identities—being formally disowned or otherwise—when in fact queers have strong family bonds that are not dependent upon blood. This series is meant to show the diverse representations of queers/trans* people in spaces they feel at home with their families.
